Our teachers

Alex McCarty

Alex has been a STEAM educator for 8 years, as well as a homeschool parent, teacher, and advisor for nearly a decade. She uses an eclectic approach to teaching and sees herself as more of a facilitator and fellow life-long learner than lecturer. She loves getting to know her students. She combines different learning styles in her lessons, and uses humor, lots of interactive discussion, and an approachable attitude to help everyone feel included and valued. As an ADHD parent of ADHD and neuro-diverse children, it is important to her that all types of learners are able to have a positive experience in her classes. Her goal is to open your child up to the joy of wondering, learning and connecting with the wide world all around us.

Miss Ashley

I have always loved to work with young children through arts and crafts! From a young age, I was very creative in coming up with unique ways of expressing myself. That uniqueness carried over into my adult life, and that is what brings me here today! I’m a mom to two amazing kiddos, both currently in elementary school. Before having my kids, I had 7 years experience in working with children primary aged through elementary school. I was an assistant Pre-K teacher followed by working at various summer camps through my local Parks & Recreation department. I love my wonderful husband, my amazing kids, my 3 crazy cats, gardening and sewing.

Mister Steve

Mister Steve is a homeschool parent with a strong passion for learner-centered education. He believes every child can succeed with the right guidance and encouragement. A lifelong learner himself, he finds endless joy in exploring the fascinating things our world has to offer.
Before joining Shiny Happy Kids, Steve worked in tech and adult training for many years, but eventually felt called to shift his focus to teaching children—a change he describes as both rewarding and inspiring. Family is at the heart of his life, and he loves spending time with his wife and their two children. When he’s not teaching, you’ll often find him outdoors, staying active or simply relaxing in the sunshine.

Miss Megan

Miss Megan has spent the past eight years as a stay-at-home mom to her two wonderful children. Before that, she taught 2nd grade, where she covered all subjects and developed a deep passion for building strong connections with her students and celebrating those unforgettable “lightbulb” learning moments.

She is also a physical and mental health enthusiast who loves sharing positivity, self-empowerment, and affirmation with others. At home, Megan and her family can often be found at the library, the park, making art, or enjoying board games together. Life is always lively with two dogs, three cats, and a happy, bustling household. In her free time, she enjoys reading and sewing beautiful quilts.

Miss Nic

I’m a lifelong artist in a wide variety of styles and mediums, but I specialize in cute, kawaii style drawings! As a freelance artist I have focused heavily on the simple styles, growing my expertise and developing my style daily. Prior to teaching I was a stay at home parent, and before that I supported K-8 math educators directly at a digital math software company. When my daughter started school I found myself loving the time I spent in her classroom, and soon enough I was there as often as I could be. Working with kids, seeing their creativity, guiding their learning, and building their artistic confidence has been the most rewarding career I could imagine. I am so excited to be working with Shiny Happy Kids and I can’t wait to meet your learner!
